Introduction spray chrysanthemum Lemond by P&M van der Knaap |

|
The new Armada variety Lemond has been introduced this morning by P&M van der Knaap, Wateringen at the auctions of Naaldwijk and Aalsmeer. The bicoloured spray chrysanthemum owes it's red and yellow striping to so called transposons. Those are 'jumping' DNA-fragments which can naturally occur in chrysanthemum. The transposons can either block or promote the formation of flower colour pigments. Hence the bicolour effect is much less sensitive to fading (or darkening) than traditional bicolour chrysanthemums. Varieties based on transposon technology can also be very sensitive to complete plant mutation, so that 10-15 % complete red plants can be formed. Lemond is characterized by a great stability and right now the percentage complete plant mutations is less than 0.5%. The rich flowering chrysanthemum has an excellent shelflife, is pollen free, has a good vigour and uniformity. The variety will be available in quantities of 20.000 stems per week in FleurPrimeur. |
